Is it better to soft wash or pressure wash a house?

It’s better to soft wash a house, and the same goes for asphalt shingle roofs. Pressure washing can chip off the paint and cause other property damage like water intrusion, and it can even crack single-pane windows. It’s only better to pressure wash a house if it’s made of brick – or if you’re prepping it for a new paint job.

Will you need access to a water hookup?

Yes, we connect our hose to a water spigot. If the water spigot is in the garage, the garage door can be gently closed on the hose so that the garage isn’t open the whole time. This prevents passers-by from looking in the garage and it also allows us to clean the exterior of the garage door.

What exactly is a “soft wash”?

In the industry, soft wash solution is a mixture of water, bleach and surfactant. The solution gets applied at a low pressure. After 15-20 minutes of dwell time, the surface then receives a garden hose pressure rinse. At Big City Softwash, we go above and beyond by adding a very important step. We scrub the house using a water-fed pole with a soft bristle brush before the rinse. This ensures all the grime and buildup actually comes off the house. If you skip the scrub, you’re left with a semi-clean house with dead organic growth and dirt still very prevalent on the surfaces. When there’s no organic growth, we use a Simple Green solution instead.

Do I need to be home during the cleaning?

You don’t have to be there the whole time, but it helps if you’re there at the beginning and at the end of the cleaning. This way we can ensure the technicians have all the access they need, and it also helps with communication. We also want to make sure you’re satisfied, which is our #1 goal.
